Sometimes the worst thing that happens to you, the thing you think you can’t’s the thing that makes you better than you used to be.

What's in a name......

My dog whose name was actually "Pooch" is the inspiration behind my photography. He was my soul-mate dog. He passed away in August 2016 after spending 17.5 joyful years together. He was my first pet, my first love, my first loss, my first grief. When he passed away, I created a personal blog on Instagram called Messages to Pooch (@messagestopooch) where I wrote to Pooch daily in the first year without him as a way of honoring his memory and also re-telling his story so my children (and I) would not forget him. It quickly became a forum for grief support and my messages resonated with a lot of people.

There’s just something comforting and peaceful about reading other people’s words on the same thing you’re experiencing. It shows that others have gone through the same pain and heartbreak that you’re going through, and that you are not alone. My messages to Pooch became a journey from grief to love. I continue to post memories and messages on there now although not daily any more.

After Pooch passed away, I took a brief break from my photography in order to heal my heart. During that time, I did a lot of soul-searching and upon reflection, I came to recognize that every picture I take going forward is in honor of Pooch, a message of love to Pooch, a message TO my Pooch. It only made sense to change my photography business name to Messages to Pooch Photography.

In turn, I hope the images I capture for you of your pets will be messages of love to them.
